Bells for Ukraine

Our parish Church of Our Lady & St. John, Carrigaline, Co. Cork is joining support for the people of Ukraine by ringing our church bells in solidarity every Thursday evening at 7pm.

We are joining an initiative of symbolic support for the people of Ukraine. The idea is to get as many churches as possible to ring their bells in unison, at 7pm local time each Thursday (which is one week since the invasion started)

Adrian Gebruers from Cobh Cathedral has played and posted online the Ukrainian national anthem, played on the Cobh Cathedral carillon. It is on the link

We hope this can happen every Thursday evening at 7 pm until this war is over

The initiative began in Cork, Ireland, where we have several churches taking part – St Fin Barre’s, St Anne’s (Shandon), Templebreedy (Crosshaven), and many others.

Prayer for Ukraine

God of Love, Creator of all peoples and things,

We come to you united in our sadness.

Our hearts are heavy with pain as we witness the suffering and destruction in Ukraine.

We come to you united in our dismay that weapons of war are being used instead of words of understanding.

We pray for those who have been forced to flee their homes to reach a place of safety.

We pray for all who are afraid and have not been able to leave their homes, the young, the elderly and the sick.

We pray for all who are helping to ease the suffering of our brothers and sisters in Ukraine.

Lord, embrace each heart with your tenderness, guide our global family to live in harmony and grant our leaders a spirit of wisdom and peace.

We make this prayer in your name, Lord Jesus, Prince of Peace.
